Geography Bowl 2007

This year's event will be held on Friday, November 9, at 6:00 PM in the Associates Room (third floor, near the parking garage) at the Student Union. There will be plenty of free food, and everyone's invited. Details on the contests and event are outlined below.

GPS/Geocaching Contest
Tuesday, November 6; Wednesday, November 7

Groups of 2-3 visit campus landmarks with a GPS receiver (provided). The group visiting all landmarks traveling the shortest distance wins. First through third place will be awarded prizes at the Geography Bowl on Friday.

Groups will be given a map of the landmarks, and will have 15 minutes to figure out the optimum route. Groups will start and finish their trips from Sarkeys. Each group will be provided with one GPS reciever, which will have all of the landmarks programmed into it. After visiting the landmarks, the GPS unit will be returned to the judge, who will download the track data and determine the total distance traveled by the group. Groups must reserve a timeslot on Tuesday or Wednesday by contacting nick@ottergoose.com.

Photos will be judged by a panel of Geography professors and/or staff members.

Other guidelines:
  • Photos must be submitted as email attachments to contest@geographyclub.org

  • Your entries must be submitted by 11:59 PM, Sunday, November 4

  • The photographer retains all copyrights, and agrees to allow the photos to be displayed at the Geography Bowl

    Geography Bowl Quiz
    Friday, November 9, 6:00 PM

Teams of 2-3 students (no more than one grad student / team) compete in a multiple choice quiz, with questions from professors covering human and physical geography, as well as GIS. Prizes will be awarded to winning teams.
